What Have we Done?

This year there will be no degree show. It is the end of term, the studios are empty and the students no longer here. Their work has not been installed on site, no private view has been organized and no alcohol has been ordered. The crowds that flocked to the shows at CSM are no more than a distant memory, but you would be wrong to think nothing is happening.

WHAT HAVE WE DONE reimagines the traditional degree show and turns it on its head. This year’s graduating students have devised over 50 public events, exhibitions and activities to take place over three months in locations across London, the UK and internationally. The dramatic events of the last 15 months have taught us that nothing is certain, and that change is not only possible but urgently needed. Our students have responded to this moment of crisis by offering us a bewildering range of activities and events. Perhaps, they suggest, the art world, like other worlds, might change forever.

This website includes all student led events and maps out the full range of work produced, documenting what is already finished and inviting you to attend what is yet to take place.

Each activity provides a showcase for student work. However, the full breadth and diversity of practice can only be understood by mapping the whole web of events. When seen in their totality this range of projects proposes a significant challenge to the old gallery systems and to the authority of the white cube.
